# Burning & the Ladder

> Burn a stack, draw a piece from the vault at the next tier up, with odds to land higher.

Burning is how holders climb tiers — and how the collection shrinks. Burn a stack from **one wallet** and you draw a random piece out of vault inventory at the next tier up, **with odds to land higher**.

<Note>
  Burning is **not switched on yet**. Nothing has been burned. Everything below is the locked design, not something you can do today.
</Note>

## The ladder

| Burn     | Get               |
| -------- | ----------------- |
| 5 Common | A Rare or better  |
| 3 Rare   | An Epic or better |
| 2 Epic   | A Legendary       |

**No fee.** Burning does not pay the vault-use fee.

Stacks cannot be pooled across wallets — you must hold all of them yourself. Legendary is the top of the ladder and never burns.

## The odds

| Burn     | Draw                                          |
| -------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| 5 Common | **96%** Rare · **3%** Epic · **1%** Legendary |
| 3 Rare   | **90%** Epic · **10%** Legendary              |
| 2 Epic   | **100%** Legendary                            |

Every Rare burn pays an Epic or better. There are no sideways draws on any rung — you never burn a stack and get the same tier back.

## What the vault holds back

The odds are set so most of the upper tiers never reach the market through burning. What stays behind goes to swap packs.

| Tier | In the vault | Out via burns | Reserved |
| --------- | ------------ | ------------- | -------- |
| Rare      | 930          | \~494         | \~436    |
| Epic      | 221          | \~84          | \~137    |
| Legendary | 46           | \~37          | \~9      |

<Tip>
  The odds are stored as a settable array, so they can be retuned. But they control **flow, not stock** — pieces already out of the vault cannot be recalled.
</Tip>

## Where burning ends

The vault releases Common into circulation to hold roughly half the live supply, so burning keeps feeding itself until the stacks run out.

|           | Start | End     |
| --------- | ----- | ------- |
| Supply    | 6,969 | \~4,115 |
| Destroyed | 0     | \~2,854 |
| Burns     | 0     | \~615   |

Every Legendary that comes out is out early — by the third round of seven.

Modelled against the 1,306 wallets that actually hold pieces today. **968 of them hold a single piece and can never burn**, so every burn comes from the other 338.
